Tuborg Gold Beer Review - Turkish Beer, Born In Denmark

Tuborg Gold is a beer produced by the Tuborg brewery native to Denmark. Launched in 1895, it was originally intended to be an export only but that soon changed after the brewery seen the success that the beer had locally.

Tuborg Gold actually has a nickname in Denmark which Colloquially translates to “The Golden Lady”. Apparently it’s due to the beers elegance and dignity but the name stuck and ever since the late 1950’s the beer has always been accompanied by beautiful women in all advertisements. One of the most famous of these adverts starred model and actress Anette Strøyberg.

The Tuborg brand has been about for a long time now, with the brewery being founded in 1873 by Philip Heyman, C.F. Tietgen, Gustav Brock and Rudolph Puggard with the flagship beer, Tuborg Pilsner, being brewed for the first time in 1880. The brewery is based in an area in the north of Copenhagen Called Hellerup. The name Tuborg comes from Thuesborg (“Thue’s castle”), a Copenhagen inn from the 1690’s situated in the area of the brewery. It wasn’t too long after it’s founding that the brewery entered a profit sharing agreement with another, more well known brewery. In 1903, Tuborg Brewery entered into this agreement with Carlsberg Brewing and in 1970 the brand was fully acquired by Carlsberg.

In Turkey, Tuborg gold is distributed by Türk Tuborg, with the company hosting many firsts. The company also distributes many household name brands such as Guinness, Sol, Campari and Desperados. Obviously, Türk Tuborg distributes other Tuborg products under licence such as:

  • Tuborg Filtresiz

  • Tuborg Amber

  • Tuborg Special

  • Tuborg Shot Special

The beer itself is pretty standard actually, with the flavour palette being quite mild across the board. When drank, one can expect to find a malty notes and other associated malty flavours. This is due to the beer being 100% malt. The other notes that are picked up are bread, roasted flavours, grain, slight sweetness and a very medium bitterness. The beer pours with a very pale yellow colour with a crisp white head. Although when letting the beer settle, the head dissipates rather quickly.

Tuborg Gold is a Turkish staple, found in a vast number of establishments. On draught, in bottles or in cans, it makes for a very refreshing drink and a suitable opponent to the overlord in the Turkish market which is Efes.
